Our Design Process
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
-Steve Jobs
1. Client Consultation
Our process starts by discussing important questions regarding the function(s) of the space to get a detailed understanding of our client’s needs and objectives. Measurements and photos are taken which allow us to assess the scope of each project for an understanding of the vision and needs.
2. Schematic Design
In the second phase, space planning and furniture layouts are developed. Circulation patterns and minimum clearances are identified and applied to the preliminary floor plan. Rough sketches and elevations are created. Furniture and finish ideas are developed and presented to the client for review and revision.
3. Design Development
After final approval of the schematic design, the designer develops floor plans, elevations, and other related items in greater detail. Colors and finishes are refined. With all these elements approved by the client, cost estimates are prepared. The resulting design package is presented to the client for final approval.
4. Contruction Documentation
Kimberly Design Group handles more than just designs. In this step, the specifics of the work to be completed are documented. A timeline is given for each detail, which includes millwork specifications, flooring, paint, and electrical layouts. Bids are obtained, and purchase orders are issued. We have relationships with a wide range of contractors and subcontractors which enables us to manage projects of various scales.
5. Construction Administration
The final stage is building and installing. Our team members make regular site visits and are onsite during installation to ensure our client’s vision is carried out. Our attention to detail and oversight of each project ensures that items are received in good condition, installed correctly, and placed with care. We also make sure that all documents have been completed and executed properly.
